Chapter 24 : Pay
Salaries are paid from research funds of which the University is a trustee and shall be paid to postdoctoral fellows in accordance with the procedures in place at the University.
The researcher in charge shall determine a postdoctoral fellow’s salary primarily on the basis of the funds available and the postdoctoral fellow’s qualifications.
The minimum hourly salary rate of a postdoctoral fellow is $17.31. This rate shall be indexed at two (2) % on March 28, 2016 (to $17.66), March 27, 2017 (to $18.01) and on March 26, 2018 (to $18.37).
The salary of a postdoctoral fellow receiving more than the minimum salary shall increase by two (2)% annually up to the end of the placement, in accordance with clause 7.03, and upon any extension of this agreement.
Salary increases shall take effect on March 28, 2016, March 27, 2017, and March 26, 2018.
24.05 Transitional measures
Clause 24.03 shall apply for any placement agreements entered into after the collective agreement has been signed.
For contracts in effect when the collective agreement is signed and for which the annualized salary for a position that entails thirty-five (35) hours per week is less than the salary set out in clause 24.03, the salary shall be adjusted in accordance with clause 24.03.
For contracts in effect when the collective agreement is signed and for which the annualized salary for a position that entails thirty-five (35) hours per week is more than the salary set out in clause 24.03, the salary shall be maintained upon signing of the collective agreement and then increased in accordance with clause 24.04.
After the collective agreement has come into effect, the Employer shall pay every postdoctoral fellow under contract as of September 1, 2015, a lump sum amount of $400.00 for a contract of thirty-five (35) hours per week or on a prorated basis if the number of hours set out in the contract is different.
The researcher in charge can pay to a postdoctoral fellow, during the fellowship and for the length of time he or she decides, a lump sum of money on top and over their regular salary. This lump sum is not taken into account for the indexation set forth [in clause 24.03 and 24.04 of the collective agreement], but shall be taken into account for the retirement plan and the union dues, up to a maximum of $5,000. Any exceeding sum shall be considered a pay raise.
